OBJECTIVE

Continuous quality improvement is an indispensable part of all current international quality system standards (including the ISO 9000: Year 2000 version) and awards. This course targets at providing the framework and the fundamental tools for continuous improvement and problem solving.
 

CONTENT

This Certificate Course is consisted of 3 workshops. Each workshop is designed with simple, practical and easy-to-understand materials and examples:

INSTRUCTOR

Mr. Herrick Lau, ISO9000 Registered Lead Auditor, Member of “American Society for Quality(ASQ)” and American “Society for Automotive Engineers(SAE)”, Principal Consultant and Director of a Consultancy Firm based in Hong Kong. Deep auditing and consulting experience, have conducted more than 150 third party audits, have assisted company of different sizes in passing the ISO9000 and QS9000 Quality System Audit.

Workshop 1 DP11.1  Basic Tools for Continuous Improvement and Problem Solving [16/9, 23/9]
Content The workshop will provide the participants with a proven framework for quality improvement and problem-solving activities inside an organization. This should satisfy the new requirement for continual improvement in the ISO 9000: Year 2000 version:
  • Management Framework for Continuous Improvement & Problem-Solving
  • Basic Tools for Continuous Improvement, including Brainstorming, Flow-charting, Pareto Analysis, Check Sheets, Stratification, Cause-and-effect Diagram, etc.
      
Workshop 2 DP11.2  Essential Statistical Techniques for Quality Improvement [30/9, 7/10]
Content

The workshop uses simple language to elaborate the significance of statistical concepts that are essential for management. The focus of the workshop is how to apply statistical techniques in day-to-day management:

  • Essential Statistical Concepts for Management
  • Practical Statistical Techniques, including Histogram, Scatter Diagram Control Charts, Charts & Graphs, Process Capability, etc.
  • Note:
    No background knowledge of statistics is required.
    Participants should bring along their calculators, but no statistical functions are needed
       

Workshop 3 DP11.3  Mistake Proofing [14/10, 21/10]
Content

A lot of failures came from human error or mistakes, therefore, how to prevent failure is becoming increasingly important in our working environment. This workshop will introduce the participants to the Mistake Proofing concept and the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) techniques:

  • How to Prevent Potential Defects, Failures & Accidents from Happening
  • The Concept of “Zero QC” and Integration of “Mistake-Proofing” (Poka-Yoke) Devices in Work Processes
  • Applying “Failure Mode and Effect Analysis” (FMEA) Techniques to Discover Potential Failure, Assessing Potential Risks and Triggering Actions to Minimize Such Risks.
