Clothing in the 20th century went through the most diverse changes and can be Guests of Honor viewing Exhibits
considered as a generation of turbulent fashion consciousness. The changes
denoted different phrases of social development and attitudes towards life. At 50 70
the same time, it was also a manifestation of the wisdom of designers, their Classic fashion looks from the 50’s to 70’s
ability to adapt clothing to the prevalent environmental needs at the time,
turning fashion into popularity index. Many clothing changes during the last
century were affected by media activities and historical incidents, including
movies, television, second world war, youth culture, and feminist movement.
The looks of fashion became more important than its protective function.
Since then, fashion became an art, affecting the cyclical fashion trends of
this century.

The exhibition was held at Macao Fashion Gallery from 13th February to 10th
May 2015. The clothing shown at the “100 Years Ladies’ Wear Exhibition”
were icon of their historical period, spanning clothing from late Qing Dynasty
to early Republic of China, from Qipao in the 30’s to bubble dresses in the
40’s and 50’s. Not to be missed were of course the miniskirts and bell-bottom
pants of the 60’s and 70’s as well as the broad shoulder jackets and suits of
the 80’s and 90’s. To recreate the reminiscence of the past, Macao Fashion
Gallery was fitted with artefacts, music, and photos of the appropriate
eras, allowing audiences, especially the younger generation, to gain better
understanding on the changing art and styles of clothing in the past century.

The “Exhibition of 100 Years of Ladies’ Wear” was strongly supported by The
Women's General Association of Macau, which provided the exhibition with
the exhibits. Macao Fashion Gallery would like to thank the Association for
its great support.
