AMS is responsible for maintaining different communications equipment including, Radar and Navigational aids, other critical equipment such as the X-ray machines and metal detectors, as well as the terminal information systems that provide information to passengers at the Macau International Airport.
A high level of quality and training in the nature of equipment that AMS maintains at the airport is required in order to ensure the airports safe operations for the thousands of passengers that travel through it every day.
As a branch of CTM, a joint venture between Cable & Wireless, the Portugal Telecom Group and CITIC Pacific Ltd, AMS has had, from the very beginning, to guarantee the same high level of quality of services provided by the CTM organization, which has been providing top notch telecommunications services since it began operating in Macau, in 1981.
The drive to implement ISO 9002 at AMS originated in its desire to meet the needs of its customers the airport authority and the passengers of the Macau International Airport. The process towards ISO 9002 certification was started in the beginning of 1997 and completed with the awarding of certification by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency in February 1998.
The implementation of ISO 9002, which is appropriate for entities, like AMS, not engaged in design of products and services, helped it to organize its operations around a quality system which ensures that services delivered meet customers expectations under a continuously improvement mind set. Basically, it established the processes and systems to train people, to issue and control documentation, to define processes and specify quality in terms of what maintenance means. It also established a feedback system for management review and an internal auditing function to monitor performance on a continuous basis.
To provide clear traceability and operate a tight maintenance schedule are the keys to bring AMS to a success. The AMS ISO 9002 system was designed to help the team to do this. With the system in place, when problems occur, the staff of AMS can do a complete analysis and solve them quickly.
AMS is the first entity at the Macau International Airport to have certification to ISO 9000 standards. ISO 9002 certification at the Airport Maintenance Services is one more way that CTM continues to fulfill its mission to be a good corporate citizen and to provide world class telecommunications services for the population of Macau. This, in turn, ensures that Macau can continue to compete in a world economy.
For the passengers traveling through the Macau International Airport, AMSs certification to ISO 9002 is a reminder that the equipment that is used to ensure their safety is being maintained under an internationally recognized quality system.
